Oil and Gas Multiphase Pump Control Upgrade
TASK: AUTOMATE CONTROL SYSTEMS
This project involved the successful upgrade of a major oil producer’s multiphase pump control system in Midway, California. The scope included replacing the existing Allen Bradley PLC5 hardware with a more advanced ControlLogix processor and updating the system logic and HMI for the multiphase pump, seal oil skid, and cooling fan. A key aspect of the project was the design and integration of a new control system architecture, which included configuring the new control logic processor and connecting it to the site’s SCADA system for seamless remote monitoring and control. The project also focused on critical PID loop tuning, allowing for three modes of control based on production flow and surge tank pressure.
The PLCs Plus team played a pivotal role in the development and programming of the PLC and OIT, ensuring smooth integration into the existing SCADA HMI system. Additionally, the team provided comprehensive support during the commissioning phase and ongoing remote assistance to ensure the system’s continued performance. By collaborating closely with the client to define process and instrumentation loop descriptions, logic controller functions, and operator interface narratives, PLCs Plus delivered a robust, scalable solution that optimizes the pump control system’s efficiency and reliability.
